Education
Master of Science in Digital Composition and Performance, University of Edinburgh: This course was a joint MSc in the subjects of music and computing. I completed an advanced program focused on the creative use of digital technologies in music composition and live performance. Developed expertise in electronic music production, interactive media, and sound design, while exploring innovative techniques for real-time performance and collaboration. I Learnt a range of programming languages including C, C++, Max/MSP, javascript, Objective C and XHTML. In my final thesis, I applied these skills in a project for music composition that implemented a model of natural evolution. This used a genetic algorithm written using C and Max/MSP, that integrated research from the IRCAM research institute.
Bachelor of Arts in Music, University of Newcastle: Completed a comprehensive degree program that encompassed music theory, performance, composition, and musicology. Gained a solid foundation in music history, critical analysis, and practical skills, alongside collaborative experiences such as events organising and individual performance development. In my final year I specialised in digital signal processing, developing algorithms for specific musical concepts, acquiring skills in Max/MSP, Reaktor, Pro-tools and Cubase.
Work & Experience
As the iOS technical lead for the SwiftUI feature architecture design, I was responsible developing a set of principles and architectural guidelines for how Swift UI features should be built at Skyscanner. By introducing modularised feature apps, with decoupled dependencies between modules, I was able to reduce compilation time during development by ~80% for all iOS engineers. As a Senior Software Engineer, I lead the technical design for a number of projects including: Migrating the hotels search funnel from React Native to SwiftUI, implementing passwordless sign in flows and the secure transfer of traveller identities within Skyscanner’s data stack. I have spoken at 2 conferences about iOS Development topics: iOS Dev UK (Aberystwyth) and Swift Heroes (Turin) Our passwordless sign-up feature earned Skyscanner an award at the European Identity and Awards Ceremony, which I accepted for the company. As a senior engineer, I was responsible for supporting and developing the expertise of junior members of the team. I have been a appointed an official mentor for 2 junior engineers in the company, both within the mobile apps community, and for front end web-development.
